Schlittler and Cease are the clear favorites, but there are several pitchers who could make a big push in the second half of the season.

Cam Schlittler (+160)

Cam Schlittler (7-3, 1.82 ERA, 0.91 WHIP) is in only his second season in the Majors and ranks among the top five in ERA and WHIP. He has the seventh most strikeouts and has been the ace of a Yankees club that leads the AL East.

Dylan Cease (+290)

Cease (3-3, 2.91 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) only has three wins with many no-decisions, but does rank third in the Majors in strikeouts. He recently missed a couple of starts due to a minor injury, and if he qualified with enough innings pitched, he would rank 16th in ERA. Cease has pitched well, but has not gotten much run support from a disappointing Toronto Blue Jays team that is four games under .500 after coming one win away from a World Series title last season.

Jacob deGrom (+750)

DeGrom (5-4, 3.17 ERA, 0.99 WHIP) ranks sixth in baseball in WHIP but is only tied for 20th in ERA and 13th in strikeouts. Still, he has picked up two wins in his last three starts. After giving up a total of 10 runs in two outings, he has only given up four runs over his last four starts.

Gavin Williams (+1800)

While Williams (9-3, 3.32 ERA, 1.10 WHIP) is tied for the lead in the Majors in wins and ranks tied for fourth in strikeouts, he does not rank in the top 20 in ERA or WHIP.

Drew Rasmussen (+2000)

Rasmussen (6-2, 2.71 ERA, 0.88 WHIP) is sitting third in WHIP and 11th in ERA. In three of his last four starts, he has not given up any runs. Rasmussen has pitched well for a Tampa Bay Rays team that has been a surprise and is battling with the New York Yankees for the top spot in the AL East.

Bryan Woo (+2200)

Woo’s (5-5, 4.28 ERA, 1.04 WHIP) AL Cy Young odds have taken a recent dip, being hammered in his last two starts, where he gave up 12 runs in 11 1/3 innings. Now, the Seattle Mariners hurler ranks 52nd in ERA and sits outside the top 10 in WHIP.

Davis Martin (+2800)

Martin (9-2, 2.41 ERA, 1.10 WHIP) has been the rock of the staff for the surprising Chicago White Sox, who are tied with the Cleveland Guardians atop the AL Central after losing 102 games last season. He ranks tied for first in wins and sixth in ERA.

American League Cy Young sleeper picks

  • Tarik Skubal (+3000) – Skubal (3-3, 2.81 ERA, 0.98 WHIP) is the two-time defending Cy Young winner and has recently returned to the Detroit Tigers’ rotation after a stint on the injured list (IL). He needs a big second half.
  • Jose Soriano (+5000) – Soriano (8-4, 2.79 ERA, 1.23 WHIP) was dominant to begin the season, and while tapering off, he still ranks tied for fourth in wins, 13th in ERA, and ninth in strikeouts.

AL Cy Young prediction: Cam Schlittler (+160)

The AL Cy Young race is a tough call, as there has not been a hurler who has lit up the AL. There is a lot of baseball left to play, but Schlittler has been solid for the Yankees, ranking in the top five in ERA and WHIP, and is only two wins behind the league leaders.
