Hometown hurler gets the call

NL Manager Dave Roberts named Phillies’ Cristopher Sanchez (11-4, 2.62 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) as the starter since Cy Young favorite Jacob Misiorowski (10-4, 1.62 ERA, 0.76 WHIP) is not playing due to arm fatigue.

Sanchez ranks tied for second in the Majors in wins and would be in the top five in ERA, but two starts back, he had his worst outing of the season, giving up nine runs in only 3 1/3 innings.

Cease gets the nod

Toronto Blue Jays ace Dylan Cease (6-4, 2.56 ERA, 1.13 WHIP) gets the start for the American League, and he ranks second in the Majors in strikeouts and seventh in ERA.

In his last two starts, he has not given up any runs and has struck out 20. He was three outs away from a no-hitter against the San Francisco Giants on July 8.

Can Schwarber do it again?

Philadelphia slugger Kyle Schwarber (.254, 32 home runs, 59 RBIs) won the All-Star Game MVP last season, going 3-for-3 with three home runs. He finished second in the home run contest yesterday and has the most home runs in the Majors.

Schwarber will also likely get the call to be in the home run swing-off if the game is tied after nine innings, just like last season.

Red-hot Ray

Tampa Bay Rays’ slugger Junior Caminero (.279, 28 home runs, 59 RBIs) is the hottest hitter in the game with 12 home runs in the last 16 games before the break.

He ranks fourth in the bigs in home runs, and lost in the semifinals of the Home Run Derby on Monday night. Caminero had the longest dinger, launching one 491 feet.

Newcomers will see action

This All-Star Game sees a record 29 new players make their All-Star debut. Some were replacements, as some of the biggest stars will not be playing, including Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani

MLB All-Star Game prediction: National League moneyline (-130)

With the game in Philadelphia and a whopping six Phillies’ All-Stars — who will shine on their home field — we're taking the National League to win the Midsummer Classic.

NL vs. AL player prop picks

Here are some MLB All-Star Game player prop bets we like at DraftKings Sportsbook

  • Kyle Schwarber to hit a home run (+350) – Why not? Hometown hero Schwarber had three home runs in last season’s All-Star Game and narrowly missed out on winning the Home Run Derby yesterday.
  • Brandon Marsh 1+ hits (-105) – Marsh plays for the Phillies, so he will likely see multiple at-bats and ranks tied for eighth in batting average.
  • Dylan Cease 2+ strikeouts (+105) – Cease may not last long on the mound but is starting the game for the AL. He ranks second in the Majors in strikeouts and has 20 Ks over his last two starts.
