Surprising series so far

We expected a closer Western Conference final. The Avs entered the series as the Stanley Cup favorites after leading the NHL in points this season.

Colorado now looks to become only the fifth team to ever come back from a 3-0 series deficit

Avalanche vs. Golden Knights Game 4 betting analysis

It looked as if, in early Game 3, the Avs were back in this series. They were up 3-0 after the first period, but were then outscored 5-0 the rest of the way in a 5-3 loss.

Colorado lost despite outshooting Vegas 35-23 and going 0-for-4 on the power play.

The leader is needed

Colorado star Nathan MacKinnon was injured during Game 3, but still had an assist and managed to finish the game. He leads the Avs with 15 points in the playoffs and led the league in goals this season. If he cannot go, it will be a big blow.

Golden Knights doubling up

Vegas has played well on both sides of the ice in the series, doubling up the Avs with 12 goals while conceding six. They have now won five in a row and have won each game in the conference finals by two goals.

The goalie matchup

Vegas netminder Carter Hart has gotten the better of Scott Wedgewood in this series, even though he has seen more shots in each game.

Hart (11-4-0, 2.30 GAA, .923 save %) has stepped up, facing at least 31 shots in every game.

Wedgewood (7-4-0, 2.48 GAA, .907 save %) gave up four goals on only 22 shots in the Game 3 loss. With him not playing well and the Avalanche's backs against the wall, they may turn to Mackenzie Blackwood (1-0-0, 3.20 GAA, .872 save %) in Game 4.

Avs have to get back to defense

On the season, the Avs led the league with a 2.40 GAA, but they are allowing an average of four goals per game in this series.

Colorado has a tall task on the defensive side of the ice. The Golden Knights are rolling, and Mitch Marner and Jack Eichel rank first and second in playoff points, respectively. Pavel Dorofeyev and Brett Howden are tied for the playoff lead with 10 goals apiece.

Necas and Nelson must begin lighting the lamp

Martin Necas and Brock Nelson ranked second and third on the Avalanche this season in goals with 38 and 33, respectively. However, while Necas has 11 assists, he and Nelson have combined for only three playoff goals and none in this series.

The best betting sites had the Avs with the best odds to win the Stanley Cup coming into the playoffs and for much of the regular season. However, down 3-0, they are now major long shots at +1500. The Carolina Hurricanes have the best odds at -110, followed by the Golden Knights (+155) and Montreal Canadiens (+950).

PlayersBest pick: Golden Knights moneyline (+105)

Not only are the Avs down 3-0, but they are even more deflated after blowing a 3-0 lead in Game 3 and may be without their best player, MacKinnon.

Vegas is rolling, and they will continue to play well on both sides of the ice. In their house, they will finish off the reeling Avs and advance to the Stanley Cup finals.

Player Prop Picks

Here are some of the player prop picks we like at DraftKings Sportsbook

  • Pavel Dorofeyev (+195) and Brett Howden (+330) anytime goal scorer – Good value picks for the two players with the most goals in the playoffs.
  • Carter Hart Over 29.5 saves (-120) – Hart has averaged 32.7 saves in the three games in this series, and the Avs will press the issue on the attack down 3-0.
