Canadians vs. Hurricanes Game 5 betting analysis
In Game 4 of the Eastern Conference final, the Canes shut out the Habs 4-0 after the previous two games went to overtime.
Shots, shots, shots
In our last two betting previews, I said this series is going the Canes’ way, as they have had way more shots and scoring opportunities. They entered Game 4 having nearly doubled the Habs’ shots, and in the 4-0 win, they outshot them 43-18.
The Canadiens have to press the issue on offense after being shut out and scoring only four goals in their previous two games.
The goalies
Frederik Andersen (11-1, 1.44 GAA, .928 save %) was not playing great in the series with a save percentage of only .814 in the first three games, but he hadn't faced many shots. That was the case in the last game as well, but he came through, stopping all 18 shots he faced.
Jakub Dobbes (9-9, 2.93 GAA, .912 save %) has been peppered with shots in the last three games, and while playing well in the first two, he gave up four goals in the last start, albeit facing 43 shots.
Top players have been no-shows for Canadiens
Alex Newhook, Juraj Slafkovsky, and Cole Caufield have combined for 18 goals in the playoffs. However, they have been a no-show in this series, for the most part, with only one goal between them.
These guys have to step up and put pressure on the Carolina defense, something they haven't done in the last three games.
A good start is key for Habs
Montreal is down 3-1 in the series and needs a spark in Game 5. It needs to get off to a good start, which it failed to do in Game 4. The Habs were down 3-0 after the first period and gave up all three goals in a three-minute span.
Can Montreal rebound?
The Canadiens won all three games against the Canes in the regular season, then shocked them in Game 1 with a 6-2 win. Since that time, they have lost the last three, have been outscored 10-4, and were shut out at home in Game 4.
PlayersBest prediction: Hurricanes -1.5 goals (+110)
The Habs are cooked. They took Games 2 and 3 to overtime, but lost Game 4 decisively and have been massively outshot.
On the other hand, the Canes are rolling. They will end the series on home ice by at least two goals to advance to the Stanley Cup Final.
Canadiens vs. Hurricanes player prop picks
Here are some of the Game 5 player prop picks we like at DraftKings Sportsbook:
- Montreal to score Under 2.5 goals (-155) – Andersen shut out the Habs in Game 4 and, in the previous two games, only gave up two goals in each. We're not expecting a big game from Montreal's offensive stars.
- Jakub Dobes Over 29.5 saves (-128) – The Habs netminder made 39 saves in Game 4 and has averaged 31 saves per game in the series.
