NBA Finals Game 1 recap

In the opener of this series, the Knicks beat the Spurs 105-95, coming back from a 14-point second-half deficit to take home-court advantage in this series.

Jalen Brunson led the way with 30 points, and Karl-Anthony Towns had a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. While Victor Wembanyama also had a double-double with 26 points and 12 boards, he was only 6-for-21 from the floor.

Knicks vs. Spurs Game 2 analysis: Wemby's play must match words

Even after the Game 1 loss, Wemby was not worried, stating, “We're going to be so much better. I'm going to be so much better."

He has to stay true to his word by playing better; he stayed on the perimeter too much and did not attack the rim. Wemby posted career playoff highs in missed shots (15) and turnovers (6), and only hit two of nine 3-pointers.

Defense there, offense not so much

The Spurs did not play bad defense in Game 1, holding the Knicks to 41% shooting, but they shot just 36% (26% from 3-point range).

De'Aaron Fox and Devin Vassell have been solid in the playoffs, averaging 16.4 ppg and 13 ppg, respectively. In Game 1, they combined for only 16 points on 7-of-24 shooting.

Spurs have to stop the bleeding

The Knicks have been great this postseason, winning 12 straight and continually coming back from double-digit deficits. They rallied from 14 points down in Game 1 and ended the game on an 11-0 run. San Antonio has to keep that from happening, as Jalen Brunson tends to take over when New York comes back and gets within striking distance.

New York's role players must ramp up scoring

Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges only combined for 12 points in Game 1, but Hart did have 15 rebounds. These depth players need to improve their scoring, as the Spurs will come out firing in Game 2.

With the Game 1 win, the Knicks are the favorites to win the NBA championship at online betting sites. They're listed at -140 in series prices with the Spurs at +120.

PlayersBest prediction: Knicks +6.5

I picked the Knicks in Game 1, and I am picking them to cover again in Game 2. They are on a magical run and keep fighting even though they have continually been down in games.

Wemby is right: he and the Spurs will play better in Game 2, and they may get the win, but New York will keep fighting and keep it close enough to at least cover the spread.

Knicks vs. Spurs player prop picks

Here are some player prop bets we like at DraftKings Sportsbook

  • Julian Champagnie 12 points+ (+105) – I took this prop in Game 1 at 11+ points, and he scored 16. Champagnie has 12+ points in three of the last four games.
  • Landry Shamet 10+ points (+164) – Shamet has been a solid scorer off the bench in the playoffs, and in the last three games, he's averaged 14.3 points per game.
