2022 Daytona 500 Predictions NASCAR

We’ve finally made it to the kick off of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series. It all starts this Sunday at the Daytona International Speedway with the 64th edition of the Daytona 500. After a historic 2021 season, many of the top bookmakers are liking Kyle Larson to pick up right where he left off. Pump the Brakes on Kyle Larson

If you wanted to, you could find every reason in the world to go with Kyle Larson in this race. There’s a reason why most sports betting sites are giving him some of the best odds at 11-1. He’s the reigning 2021 champion, he was the first driver since Jimmie Johnson in 2007 to have 10 wins and a championship in the same, and he led 2,581 laps last year with an average finish of 9.08.

What I think a lot of people are failing to look at though, is his history at Daytona. This isn’t a short history either. In his career, Larson has 15 cup starts at the Great American Race and his best finish has only been in sixth place. His average finish is way back at 21st. Add to this he’s had six instances where he wasn’t able to finish the race either. Avoid Larson to win, or even get on the podium.

William Byron has Great Value

Byron isn’t a huge underdog, but still holds great value as he’s being given 15-1 odds and the sixth best chance to win. Byron may only have two Cup Series victories, but one was at the Daytona International Speedway in a 2020 win at the Coke Zero Sugar 400 on this same track. The year before in 2019 he placed 2nd in the race. In one of his two career Xfinity series races in Daytona he took the top spot as well. Look for him again to be in the mix for a spot on the podium.

Take Denny Hamlin to Win

Racing must be the only sport where the odds on favorite still only get 9-1 odds. Hamlin has won this event three times since 2016, but that’s the thing with racing and especially the Daytona 500; it’s as unpredictable almost by nature.

Hamlin always seems to bring his A game for sunny Florida. Even last year when he seemed off, he still managed to finish in fifth. One more win sees Hamlin tie Cale Yarborough with the second most wins in Daytona history. He’ll still need four more if he ever wants to tie Richard Petty’s eight, but Sunday should be a step in the right direction for him.
