Texas A&M Corpus Christi vs. Texas Southern -3

Both of these teams are conference champions with solid records, and they play similar styles of ball. On paper this may look to be a close matchup. However, Texas Southern’s record of 18-12 can be misleading to some, but don’t ignore the fact that they’ve played one of the toughest schedules in the nation. The Tigers started the season 0-7, but turned their season around when they beat the Florida Gators on the road in Florida. They went from that big win to cruising through their conference tournament.

TA&MCC is no slouch either though, they were far and away the best team in their conference, but they are incredibly new to the bright lights of the big dance. The opposite can’t be said of Texas Southern who’s been in the tournament three of the last five years. They also have played the tougher schedule of the two teams by far. Three points looks like a very easy bet for me to take when betting the spread. There’s no guarantees in March Madness, but this game should be as much of a lock as you’re going to find over the next month of basketball.

Corpus Christi simply does not have the firepower or talent to stay with Southern. They definitely don’t have the bench production as Southern leads the nation in points off of the bench whereas A&M can only realistically run six or seven of their players if they want to stay competitive.

Indiana -4 vs. Wyoming

The second game of the evening sees the Indiana Hoosiers face the Wyoming Cowboys. Indiana’s biggest issue this year has been shooting free-throws. They were last in the Big 10 shooting under 60%. That did get turned around some during the Big 10 tournament when they beat Michigan and Illinois, or even their close loss to Iowa. Meanwhile, Wyoming is only 4-5 in their last nine games. Momentum is important going into this tournament and another thing that shouldn’t be ignored is home/road splits.

The Cowboys are 14-1 when playing at home, but they’re nowhere near as good on the road. Not to mention this is a long road trip for them going from Wyoming to Ohio. Looking at Indiana they have the more experienced roster and should be able to exploit an interior defense of Wyoming that is lacking. Because of that, the bigs of Indiana should be able to feast underneath so take Indiana even with the four point spread.
