With the College Football season winding down the national attention is starting to shift to the NBA season where many casual fans will become aware of what could be one of the most competitive seasons in recent memory.
In the East, only 5 games separate the 10 seed New York Knicks from the top seed Nets, and in the West, outside of the Suns and Warriors the 3-8 seeded teams look like they will be interchangeable throughout the course of the season as only a few games separate teams from one another. Lamelo Ball has could become the next face of the NBA
The Hornets have come out of nowhere in the last year since drafting Lonzo Ball and signing Gordan Hayward and have the look of a team that will only get better as the season progresses. In a crowded Eastern Conference, I think the Hornets will be one of the 8 teams that will make it to the playoffs.
Giannis has shot up the list in recent weeks after finally returning to form after dealing with some nagging injuries early in the year but this looks like it could be Steph Curry’s year after a couple of down years. Durant and Curry are getting older and there are some question marks surrounding if they can stay healthy throughout the entire course of the season and if you are looking for a hedge player like Jokic or Doncic are good value plays if you want a high risk/high reward choice.
The Lakers are 2.5 point favorites over the Celtics on the road in what should be a fun game to watch between two of the most storied teams in league history. The Celtics have the series advantage of 163-132 but have struggled over the last ten years since they last won the title in 2008 with Kevin Garnett. The Lakers are struggling with consistency and are sitting at 12-12 and will likely need to make a big trade before the deadline if they want to end up contending in the West against the likes of the Suns and Warriors.

The Sixers are one of the best teams in the league when Embiid is on the court
Joel Embiid missed a few weeks with Covid and the Sixers struggled in his absence but have are 3-1 since he returned and Embiid looks is having the best season of his career statistically averaging 24ppg and 11 rebounds and if he can stay healthy this may be the year the Sixers finally make a deep run in the East. Seth Curry, Tobias Harris, and Danny Green give the Sixers one of the best three-point shooting teams in the league. The Hornets are one of the most exciting teams to watch in the league and Lonzo Ball looks like he might end up being the next big superstar and is averaging 20 points in his second season.
The Nets are the top seed in the East and are still the favorites to take home the NBA title, but they have struggled against top competition and their matchup against the Hawks will be a good test on the road. Kevin Durant looks like his old self and is one of the favorites to win the MVP, but the Nets have some depth concerns and it doesn’t look like Kyrie Irving will come back to play anytime soon. Trae Young is averaging 26 PPG and has picked off where he left off last year but the Hawks surrounding cast has struggled and will need to improve their play to compete in the East this year.
