PA ramps up battles with CFTC over prediction markets

Pennsylvania is closely following emerging prediction markets, keen to protect its established regulated online gambling industry.

The PGCB reiterated its belief that online prediction markets should be classed as “unregulated sportsbooks.”

However, unlike other states like Nevada, it has stopped short of issuing cease-and-desist letters to or suing operators.

The board was keen to point out the potential harm to young gamblers, citing a Futurism article.

Just this week, Pennsylvania introduced a bill to geoblock online gambling apps in schools. While casino and sportsbook revenue is on the rise, the Keystone State is keen to expand its responsible gambling duties statewide.
