The New Year has already delivered on the upset watch. This past week saw the #3 Purdue Boilermakers fall to #24 Wisconsin Badgers (74-69). In the Big East, #22 Villanova upset #15 Seton Hall (73-65) and unranked Marquette completely destroyed #16 Providence 88-56. In the SEC, surprise contenders #21 LSU, got the victory over typical college powerhouse, #16 Kentucky in a close matchup (65-60).
However, the best game of the New Year was when undefeated #1 Baylor went into also-undefeated #8 Iowa State’s homecourt, and pulled out the close victory 77-72. With more key matchups on the horizon and games still being postponed and cancelled,

#11 Iowa State Cyclones at #6 Kansas Jayhawks
The Cyclones are coming off an impressive bounce-back win against #25 Texas Tech. They’re bouncing back off of their first loss of the season (to #1 Baylor). The Cyclones have impressed this year, already beating #22 Xavier, #31 Iowa, and #35 Creighton. This Tuesday game will be after Iowa State plays a solid Oklahoma squad, and Kansas plays #25 Texas Tech (seen below). With the Jayhawks playing at home, they should beat their first ranked team of the year (as Michigan State wasn’t ranked when they played in Week 1).
#9 Auburn Tigers at #15 Alabama Crimson Tide
Auburn beat their first ranked team last week, when they took down the undefeated LSU Tigers. Now the 13-1 Auburn Tigers will play in-state rivals Alabama. Alabama has beaten all three of their ranked opponents (#4 Gonzaga Bulldogs, #12 Houston Cougars, & the #18 Tennessee Volunteers). However, ‘Bama’s three losses all come from unranked opponents (Iona Gaels, Memphis Tigers, and Davidson Wildcats). Now that Alabama will be playing at home and against a ranked team, take the Crimson Tide to upset the Tigers in this high-stakes rivalry game held on Tuesday.
#18 Tennessee Volunteers at #21 LSU Tigers
Saturday’s big matchup is held between these two SEC schools. 10-3 Tennessee has only lost to ranked teams (#22 Villanova, #25 Texas Tech, & #15 Alabama). The only ranked team they beat, #8 Arizona (who is the best team they have played all season). Ultimately, LSU is the better team between the two though. LSU bounced back beating #16 Kentucky (#16 Kentucky is tied with #16 Providence this week). They bounced back from their first loss of the season, when the LSU Tigers fell to the #9 Auburn Tigers. LSU has the better defense and gets more rebounds, take the Tigers for the win over the Volunteers.

#6 Kansas Jayhawks at #25 Texas Tech Red Raiders

These are two good teams, but defending National Champion Baylor is by far the better squad. Baylor hasn’t played the toughest schedule this year, but they tried.
