This week’s Thursday Night Football matchup looks like it should be a good one between two teams in the Steelers and Vikings that need to finish well to have any shot at the Wild Card.
Both the Steelers and Vikings came into the year with high expectations but have struggled in this year one side of the ball. Kirk Cousins has a career-best passer rating of 106.3 and a 25 to 3 Td to interception ratio but the Vikings defense is giving up the third-most yards per game at 382 yards. The Steelers on the other hand have struggled offensively with their offense near the bottom of the league with 20.3 points per game. Kirk Cousins is having one of his best statistical seasons
The Vikings are the 3 point favorites at home as they look to improve their home record to 4-2 on the season. The Vikings are 6-6 against the spread which is a good indication that this game could go either way. The Vikings had impressive back-to-back wins against the Chargers and Packers a few weeks ago, but then played horrible last week and lost to the winless Lions. The heat is on Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer as talk has picked up this week of him being on the hot seat if the Vikings miss the playoffs. Kirk Cousins has one more year on his deal and if the Vikings miss the playoffs they could look to trade Cousins and fire Zimmer and try to rebuild in the draft.

The Vikings look like the more desperate team with Mike Zimmers job on the line and I suspect they will come out firing in the first half to try and put points up on the Steelers defense and play from ahead. Dalvin Cook is questionable for the Vikings which means Cousins should be putting the ball in the air early in the game and I like the Vikings to get out to an early lead at home.
With the Vikings leaning on the passing game tonight I think Cousins will easily throw for 250 yards and end up leading the Vikings to the win at home. The 2 TD touchdown passes may be the toughest for him to get but without a healthy Cook in the lineup Cousins will probably be throwing the ball in goal-line situations and he has some rangy targets like Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and tight end Tyler Conklin.
Big Ben announced that this will be his last year in Pittsburgh earlier this week
The Steelers average right at 20 points a game and the Vikings average 25 but this will be a clash of both team’s strengths as the Steelers are playing well defensively and should be able to keep the Vikings offense in check. I think we will likely see a low-scoring game in which the Vikings pull away late in something like a 21-17 final score.
The Steelers lead the NFL in sacks per game with 3.1 and will look to pressure Cousins and keep the Vikings off the field. If the Steelers pash rush is getting heat on Cousins early in the game it could be a sign that it may be a long night for the Vikings.
Najee Harris is right behind Mac Jones and Jamarr Chase with the third-best odds in the Rookie of the Year race and has rushed for 779 yards and 5 TDs. With Big Ben in noticeable decline, Harris will be a big key to the Steelers offense down the stretch. If Harris is effective running the ball against the Vikings the Steelers will likely ride him as much as possible and try to keep the ball away from the Steelers offense.
