Georgia and Alabama face off on Monday night for the National Title game in what should be a very entertaining game. We rarely get two teams from the same conference in the National Title game but the stars aligned this year and Georgia and Alabama are clearly the top two teams in the country.
Alabama beat up on Georgia in the SEC title game as underdogs as Alabama QB Bryce Young went off for over 400 yards in the air. Nick Saban is the master motivator and has used being an underdog to fire up his team and it certainly worked in their 41-24 win in the SEC title game. Georgia is hoping to win their first title since 1980
Georgia once again is the favorite which is quite surprising considering how well Alabama played against Georgia a few weeks ago. The oddsmakers must be factoring in how hard it is to beat a good team twice. If you asked Kirby Smart he would probably tell you that he wishes the Bulldogs were the underdogs due to the motivational edge that Alabama will likely use once again in this matchup.
The point spread seems very low considering the type of game we saw in the SEC title. I think Georgia will come into the game with a drastically different game plan and realize they need to get points on the board early and try to avoid playing from behind. I think we will see a high-scoring game that is ultimately decided by which team can avoid the big turnover
I think Bryce Young will be the difference-maker once again and use his speed to extend plays against the Georgia defense and I think the Tide will get off to a fast start Monday Night. Georgia QB Stetson Bennett is more of a game manager and I think Alabama will force him into making mistakes as Alabama focuses on taking away the run game.
Young hopes to have another big game against Georgia
Georgia coach Kirby Smart was the defensive coordinator at Alabama under Nick Saban prior to heading to Georiga and probably spent the past few weeks game planning on how to stop Alabama Heisman winning QB BryceYoung. Young threw for 421 and 3 TDs and rushed for 40 and another score last year. Young has the mobility that can give defenses fits and how well Georgia can contain Young early will give a good indication of how this game will go.
The teacher vs. pupil element will be interesting to see Monday night as Smart likely desperately wants to get his alma mater over the hump and help get Georgia their first national title since 1980. Both Smart and Saban are defensive specialists and we could see a totally different game than we saw the first time around.
