Week 14 was huge for the AFC North standings. Pittsburgh opened the week by losing to Minnesota on Thursday Night Football. They were last in the division by Sunday afternoon with their 6-6-1 record.
The Cleveland Browns upset Baltimore in Week 14.
Baltimore faced Cleveland during the early slate of games, and things got off to a horrible start. The medical staff carted star quarterback Lamar Jackson to the locker room early in the second quarter. According to head coach John Harbaugh, Jackson suffered an ankle sprain.
A late touchdown and onside kick recovery almost helped Baltimore complete a comeback against Cleveland, but the Browns held on to win 24-22. Cleveland is 7-6.
Baltimore dropping to 8-5 opened the door for Cincinnati to take the division lead. However, the Bengals failed to complete an overtime comeback against San Francisco. The loss pushed Cincinnati (7-6) below Cleveland in the standings.
Dallas and Washington clashed this past weekend in a close game that nearly pulled Ron Rivera’s team within one game of first place in the NFC East. Instead, Mike McCarthy’s squad hung on to win 27-20 and extend their division lead to three games.
Washington lost Taylor Heinicke to a knee injury and Terry McLaurin to a concussion during the game. However, the injuries didn’t prevent the Football Team from almost completing the comeback. A Cole Holcomb pick-six gave Washington a chance, but the Cowboys forced a fourth turnover to seal the game.
The Philadelphia Eagles had their bye in Week 14. New York might as well have taken the weekend off because they got blown out by the Chargers until garbage time.
Every NFC South team except for Tampa Bay played in the early slate on Sunday. New Orleans went on the road to New York and beat the Jets 30-9. Alvin Kamara’s return from injury sparked the blowout. Sean Payton’s team winning closed the door on Tampa Bay clinching the division’s top seed in Week 14.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued dominating the NFC South.
Atlanta went to Bank of America Stadium and dropped the Panthers. The Falcons still don’t have a stable offense, but their defense created three turnovers and scored a touchdown. Atlanta is 6-7 while Carolina is 5-8.
Tom Brady and the Buccaneers held a 27-10 lead early in the fourth quarter against Buffalo. Usually, Tampa Bay’s defense puts those games away, but Josh Allen authored an improbable comeback that led to overtime. Breshad Perriman eventually sealed the win for Tampa with a 58-yard touchdown.
Sunday opened with Seattle taking care of business against the Texans. The Seahawks are their division’s forgotten team because of all the losses they suffered as Russell Wilson recovered from surgery on his finger. Wilson has looked much better in recent weeks.
The 49ers moved to 7-6 after the previously discussed overtime win against Cincinnati. San Francisco holds the second wild card seed in their conference.
Arizona and Los Angeles clashed in a Monday Night Football classic. The game was tied 13-13 at halftime, but the Rams eventually built a 27-13 lead after Kyler Murray’s second interception.
The Cardinals weren’t dead yet. Kliff Kingsbury’s squad attempted a desperate fourth quarter comeback that almost came to fruition. A Matt Prater field goal pulled them within seven, and a recovered onside kick kept the dream alive. Unfortunately, Aaron Donald’s third sack of the game put an end to things.
Arizona still leads the NFC West with a 10-3 record, but the Rams are right behind them at 9-3.
