The NFC Championship game takes place this Sunday January 30th as the Los Angeles Rams host the San Francisco 49ers with the winners advancing to Super Bowl LVI. As always Playersbest.com is here with the best bets and tips for the game. Whether you want to bet this football game or any other, be sure to have a look first at our football odds page. There you’ll find live odds and be able to compare them across multiple sportsbooks all in one place.
Most sports betting sites have the Rams are favored by three even though they’ve lost to the 49ers twice this season. The 49ers most recently won in a Week 18 matchup that they needed just to get into the playoffs. Early in that game Los Angeles got out to a commanding 17-0 lead only to see it evaporate in a 27-24 overtime loss.
The same looked to be happening last week as the Rams were up 27-3 over Tom Brady and Bucs, only to do everything their power to let the game get tied back up 27-27. The Rams were able to kick a field goal as time expired, but perhaps there’s a bit of a hangover entering the NFC Championship.
The 49ers come in after an upset of their own over the #1 seed Green Bay Packers. the 49ers defense held Aaron Rodgers and company to just 10 points. San Francisco didn’t score an offensive touchdown, but their special teams did score off of a blocked punt and 13 total points were enough to win and advance. The big question for this game is if the San Francisco 49ers defense and special teams can come up with herculean effort, will Jimmy Garropolo and the offense do enough to get the team the win.
I think things will go well for the 49ers and not only would I take them to cover the 3.5 points, I’d take them to win outright. Over the last three seasons, San Francisco is 6-0 vs. Los Angeles. The 49ers have shown to run the ball exceptionally well vs. the Rams and in their first meeting this season the niners rushed 44 time for 156 yards. They came close to doubling LA’s time of possession and there’s no reason to think they won’t be able to do the same this Sunday.
The smart bet for this game has to be the under. This is a rivalry matchup with NFC West foes who know each other quite well. They’re familiar with each other’s schemes and how to stop them. Not only that, but San Francisco knows they won’t win this game if it becomes a shootout. They will be doing their best to slow the game down and keep it low scoring just like they did in their first matchup in which the two teams only combined for 41 points. Take the under.
Touchdowns might be hard to come by in this game, so it’s tempting to go with a safer bet like Cooper Kupp or Deebo Samuel. However, I think a smart bet with great odds is Rams tight end Tyler Higbee. He’s only scored five touchdowns on the season, but three of those came in two games against the 49ers. I think he’ll get TD number four this Sunday and most football bookmakers are giving +210 odds for it.
