DraftKings Launches Multi-State Online Poker Site in 3 Markets

DraftKings has launched its poker site in three states after receiving approval from the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB).

The DraftKings poker site is now live for players in three U.S. markets: Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Players from all three states can play against each other in real-money games and tournaments.

According to the MGCB, all requirements were met for DraftKings to begin offering its poker product to players in the three states.

"This approval reflects the strength of our partnership with Bay Mills Indian Community and the thoroughness of our regulatory process," the MGCB press release stated. "As Michigan’s multi-state poker network continues to grow, we remain focused on ensuring every operator meets the same high bar for fairness, security, and player protection.”

More states may follow suit

Additional states — including Delaware, Nevada, and West Virginia — may eventually join DK's multi-market poker network, thereby expanding the player pool.

Those states, along with Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, are part of the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA), which was formed in 2022.

States in the MSIGA will need approval from state gaming regulators to join the DraftKings poker site.

New battleground with a familiar foe

DraftKings is often associated with FanDuel, since they were among the top two DFS sites before expanding into other gambling products. They are now two of the biggest gaming brands in the U.S.

DraftKings will continue to compete with FanDuel. In June, the PokerStars product from FanDuel launched its Playtech-powered poker site, also available in Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

The competition between the two giants will continue, and each has also launched a prediction market platform to join the booming industry.

DraftKings continues expansion

DraftKings has stated that it wants to expand its product offerings, and is making good on that.

Not only are the multi-state poker site and prediction market platform now available, but the online sportsbook is also expanding its footprint.

Alberta launch

On the same day the MGCB released its press statement about DraftKings' multi-state poker site, the gambling giant also launched its sportsbook product in Alberta, Canada.

Twenty-two sportsbooks, including FanDuel, went live north of the border on July 13, as Alberta joined Ontario as the two provinces with open regulatory frameworks.

Arkansas launch

On March 20, DraftKings also launched its sportsbook in Arkansas. However, that did not come without some pushback from DK.

The state's gaming regulator, the Arkansas Racing Committee, requires gaming operators to give 51% of their revenue to the land-based casino they're partnered with.

In Arkansas, DraftKings is partnered with Southland Casino Hotel in West Memphis.

Super App

Also in March, DraftKings unveiled its Super App, which integrates the sportsbook, casino, lottery, and prediction market products into a single platform.
