Two major game developers, Pragmatic Play and Hacksaw Gaming, have entered the newly regulated Alberta online casino market.
Pragmatic Play already had a presence in Canada. Now, it enters Canada’s newest regulated gaming market with a range of its top slots.
Similarly, Hacksaw Gaming — the brains behind slots such as Le King and Book of Time — has also secured an Alberta online casino license.
Both online slots operators already supply games to regulated casinos in Ontario.

For the first time, players in Alberta can legally enjoy real-money online gaming. They are free to play table games or the top trending slots with their own money.
“Alberta represents an exciting new adventure for regulated iGaming in Canada, and Pragmatic Play is delighted to be among the first suppliers bringing premium entertainment to operators and their players from day one,” said Sharon McHugh, Pragmatic Play’s director of PR. “Building on our strong momentum in Ontario, this expansion reinforces Pragmatic Play’s long-term commitment to the Canadian market.
"We look forward to working closely with partners across the province as the market continues to develop.”
Alberta follows Ontario with full real-money casino gambling
Albertans have already had the chance to enjoy online casinos but have been limited to state-run sites like PlayAlberta.
With the iGaming Alberta Act (Bill 48) now in force, they can play slots and table games for real money. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) is overseeing online gambling in the province.
Established casinos like Caesars will simply open their doors to the Alberta market through a geofenced site.
Alberta online casinos go live with over 35 licenses
The road to regulated gambling in Alberta has been long, but the first online casinos finally went live on July 13.
While PlayAlberta enjoyed a monopoly in the province since 2020, when the state-run site went live. Profits go toward the General Revenue Fund and are distributed across the province.
However, online casinos like BetMGM and bet365, which already have a foothold in the U.S., have been eyeing regulatory changes across the border.
While 25 operators entered the initial licensing process, this quickly increased to over 35. Some 37 gaming providers, powered by slots giants like Hacksaw, opened their virtual doors this week.
