France vs. Morocco betting analysis

France had cruised through their first four World Cup matches, but needed a penalty in the round of 16 to beat Paraguay 1-0.

Morocco had an easier time in their round of 16 match, taking out host Canada 3-0.

The rematch

This is a rematch of the 2022 FIFA World Cup semifinals, where France beat Morocco 2-0. In 2022, Morocco became the first African team ever to reach the semifinals.

While Les Bleus beat the Atlas Lions in 2022, three of their six World Cup losses since the turn of the century have come against African teams.

Mbappé and the great French attack

While the French only scored one goal in the last match, they totaled 13 goals in the previous four matches and lead the tournament in goals.

Star Kylian Mbappé has scored a goal in every match, and in the race for the Golden Boot, he is tied for second with Erling Haaland for the most goals behind Lionel Messi, who has played one more match.

The French are deep all over the pitch and can attack from anywhere. Ousmane Dembélé has four goals, and Michael Olise, who is playing on a yellow card that France is appealing, leads the World Cup with five assists.

Morocco’s defense must play both ways

Morocco has only conceded one goal in their last two matches and four in the tournament. Their defense not only has to thwart the French attack but also pounce on counterattack opportunities.

One key player for the Atlas Lions is defender Achraf Hakimi, who leads the World Cup with 15 counter chances.

The French offense was thwarted in their last match against a very physical Paraguayan team that did not give up space. Morocco may want to follow that path as well.

Will Ismael Saibari be available?

Attacker Ismael Saibari leads Morocco with three goals in the World Cup and is their most dangerous player up front. However, he was taken off early in the last match with a hamstring injury. Recently, it was reported that his injury was not as severe as first thought, but it remains to be seen if he will be available to face France.

Azzedine Ounahi and Soufiane Rahimi will have to lead the attack if Saibari is not available, and each has two goals apiece.

Real Madrid’s Brahim Díaz ranks second in the World Cup in assists and leads the midfield. Limiting mistakes and facing a tactically gifted French midfield will be a big task for the underdogs.

Not the attention, but the results

While France is more known for its attack and star players like Mbappé up front, the defense has been stellar. They have two clean sheets in their two knockout-stage matches and, for the tournament, have conceded only two goals.

Morocco was shut out by Les Bleus in the 2022 World Cup semis. Can they score against a stout defense, possibly without their leader, Saibari? Big question.

France vs. Morocco prediction: France moneyline (-166)

Morocco is a solid squad, no doubt, but France is loaded. Les Bleus did not play their best in the last match but still produced a clean-sheet win. Their defense will continue to play well, and their attack will not be stopped.

We see this match ending just like the 2022 World Cup semis with France coming out on top for a 2-0 win.

France vs. Morocco prop bet picks

Here are some prop bets we like at BetMGM Sportsbook for the France vs. Morocco prediction.

  • Kylian Mbappé to score a goal (-110) - Mbappé has scored a goal in all five matches. Another solid value bet with better odds is that he scores the first goal at +250.
  • Over 10.5 corners (+250) - In France’s last match, there were 14 corner kicks, with the French taking 12 of them, and with them on the attack in this match, they will take many corners.
  • France Under 14.5 shots (+215) - France will attack, but in their last match they took 15 shots, and in this one they face a better Moroccan defense.
