Spain vs. Belgium betting analysis

Belgium played on U.S. soil in their last match against the Americans and put on a dominant performance, winning 4-1.

Spain had a little tougher time in the quarters, needing an extra-time goal, but they kept yet another clean sheet in the 1-0 win over Portugal.

Perfect so far

While the Spanish attack has been up and down in the tournament, their defense has remained perfect with five clean sheets in five matches.

The duo of Pau Cubarsí and Pedro Porro has anchored the lockdown defense, keeping the pressure off goalkeeper Unai Simón, who has only had to make six saves in five matches.

Belgium has exploded for 12 goals in their last three matches, and they have scored the second-most goals in the tournament. However, those matches were against New Zealand, Senegal, and the United States, none of which are near the level of the Spanish defensive back line.

Get in the box

Belgium has been solid at getting into the opponents’ box to create chances, and in their 4-1 win over the USA, they had many chances to score. Four different players have scored at least two goals in the tournament, led by Romelu Lukaku, who came off the bench in the last match and has tallied three so far.

Belgium had a plethora of chances to score against the USA, and that will not happen against Spain, so unlike in the last match, they cannot squander opportunities.

Yamal’s breakout match?

Spain has scored eight goals in their five matches, with Mikel Oyarzabal the only player with more than one goal, with four. Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has one goal, and the young new star of Spanish soccer may be primed for a big match.

Spain manager Luis de la Fuente stated that Yamal has improved since returning from an injury and will be at full throttle in the quarterfinal match.

The midfield matchup

The midfield matchup is key, with Spain's Rodri and Pedri facing off against Belgium's talented trio of Nicolas Raskin, Youri Tielemans, and Hans Vanaken

Belgium's midfield play in the USA game was superb, pushing the attack and keeping the Americans from getting legitimate scoring chances. However, in this match, they will face a much more tactical Spanish midfield that is dangerous in spurring the attack, winning time of possession, and helping the defensive back line.

Belgium will likely not have the time of possession they had against an underwhelming, unpassionate USA squad, so while the attack is key, so are the defense and help on the counter.

Spain vs. Belgium prediction: Spain moneyline (-320)

Belgium is a good team, but Spain is a great one. The Spanish have flip-flopped in scoring matches and only had one goal in their last outing, but their defense has been great, not allowing any goals.

Belgium will put up a fight, but will not crack the Spanish defense, and the Spanish attack will apply pressure early and often. Spain will play a solid match on both sides of the pitch and win 2-0, punching their ticket to the semifinals.
