Game 2 recap

After a 10-point win for the Knicks in Game 1, the second contest was much closer, with New York squeaking out a 105-104 win to take a 2-0 series lead on the road.

Victor Wembanyama bounced back from a bad Game 1 to score 29 points and grab nine rebounds, but had a costly turnover with only seconds remaining and missed what would have been a game-winning jumper.

Spurs vs. Knicks Game 3 betting analysis

The Spurs have held the Knicks to under 43% shooting in each of the first two games, but have nothing to show for it. In Game 1, San Antonio shot poorly before making 47% of its field-goal attempts in Game 2.

While their defense was solid against Jalen Brunson in Game 2 (20 points on 7-of-25 shooting), the Spurs allowed Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges to combine for 41 points on solid 16-for-25 shooting. Wemby and company have to do a better job of guarding Towns, who has combined for 29 points and 25 rebounds in the two games.

Spurs need more consistency

The Spurs were inconsistent on offense in Game 2, combining for 63 points in the first and fourth quarters while totaling only 41 in the second and third quarters. For the second straight game, they took a loss after having a double-digit lead.

San Antonio has to be more consistent with its scoring.

It all starts with Wemby

Wemby was much better in Game 2 than Game 1, but he has to attack the rim more. He is only 4-for-15 from 3-point range and has only three offensive rebounds in each game. Wemby's work in the paint is needed on both sides of the floor. He did have four blocks in Game 2, but still has to be more active around the rim.

A must-win game for San Antonio

While Game 3 is not an elimination game, it is a must-win matchup for the Spurs. In the history of the NBA playoffs, no team has ever come back from a 0-3 deficit to win a series (0-135).

Only five teams in NBA history have come back from a 0-2 deficit. However, Wemby remains confident.

Fox and Castle have to step up

After a poor showing in Game 1, De'Aaron Fox came back in Game 2 with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting while Stephon Castle only had 14 points on 5-for-14 shooting.

They need to be solid in the scoring department, and Fox’s veteran leadership will be needed at the point for the young Spurs.

Hold onto the rock

Wemby, Fox, and Castle each had four turnovers in Game 2, and Wemby’s late turnover — hitting Castle in the back with the ball — likely cost the Spurs the game. They need to withstand the pressure and hold onto the rock in Game 3 against a red-hot and confident Knicks team.

PlayersBest prediction: Knicks -2.5

I picked the Knicks to cover the spread in both games and will do so again ahead of Game 3. San Antonio lost Game 2 despite playing solid defense against Brunson, and outshooting New York 47% to 43% from the floor.

The Knicks crushed the Spurs in the lone meeting at Madison Square Garden this season, and they are 5-0 ATS against them in all five games this year. While this one will be pretty close, the Knicks will stay hot on their floor, winning and covering to take a 3-0 series lead.

Spurs vs. Knicks Player prop picks

Here are some player prop bets we like for Game 3 at DraftKings Sportsbook

  • De'Aaron Fox 15+ points (-120) – Fox had 20 points in Game 2 and will press the issue on offense with his team down 0-2.
  • Mikal Bridges 15+ points (+123) – Good value for a player who had 20 points in Game 2 and has gone for at least 15 points in five of the last six games.
