Spurs vs. Thunder Game 2 betting analysis

The Game 1 loss in this series was the Thunder’s first of the playoffs after sweeping the first two series.

In six games this season against the Spurs, the Thunder have now lost five.

Wemby makes history

Victor Wembanyama was huge in Game 1 with 41 points and 24 rebounds. He became the youngest player ever in the playoffs to go 40-20 and only the fourth player to ever accomplish the feat in the conference finals.

Other guys stepped up

The Spurs took a blow before the game when guard De'Aaron Fox was ruled out with an ankle injury. However, the other players stepped up with every starter scoring at least 11 points.

Dylan Harper really raised his game, going for 24 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and a Spurs playoff record seven steals.

OKC needs to bounce back

The Thunder are down in the series and have lost home-court advantage. They need their top players to get back in the saddle. On a night when Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was presented his second straight MVP award, he did score 24 points with 12 assists, but was only 7-for-23 from the floor.

Chet Holmgren was limited to 8 points on 2-of-7 shooting.

Jalen Williams came back from injury to go for 26 points, and Alex Caruso blew up off the bench for 31 points. However, for the Thunder to win Game 2, they need their stars to step up.

Forwards need to body Wemby

Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein, who played only 12 minutes in Game 1, need to be more physical with Wemby, who had several dunks, including a few over multiple defenders.

Defense there, offense not so much

The Thunder played pretty good defense in Game 1, holding the Spurs to 101 points in regulation and 43% shooting. However, their offense was not there.

OKC leads the NBA playoffs, averaging 121.3 ppg, and did not even reach that, even with two overtimes. They also shot just 41%, and their starters combined to go 22-for-62 from the floor (35.4%).

Ajay Mitchell needs to chip in; in the last series, taking over for the injured Williams, he averaged 22.5 ppg. He was back on the bench in Game 1, and while he logged 34 minutes, he scored only 4 points on 2-for-5 shooting.

PlayersBest pick: Thunder -9.5

Ok, so I picked the Spurs to cover in Game 1, so why the flip? Well, Wemby had a historic game while the two OKC stars, Gilgeous-Alexander and Holmgren, struggled, combining for 32 points on a terrible 30% from the field. And the game still went to OT.

The Thunder are too good and too proud to go down 0-2 at home. The MVP and Holmgren will get it done. The Thunder will come out firing — winning and covering the spread — to tie the series at 1-1.

Spurs vs. Thunder Game 2 player prop picks

Here are some player prop bets we like at BetMGM Sportsbook for Game 2 of the Western Conference finals:

  • Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 30+ points (+105) – The MVP will bounce back big time in Game 2.
  • Jalen Williams 7+ rebounds (+300) – Good value here for Williams, who had seven boards in Game 1.
