Thunder vs. Spurs Game 6 betting analysis

The Thunder are the defending NBA champions and one step closer to a repeat after their 127-114 Game 5 win over the Spurs.

Wemby must bounce back

Victor Wembanyama wasn't himself in the Game 5 loss, with 20 points on 4-of-15 shooting, and only six rebounds. He has to bounce back for the Spurs to have any chance to force a Game 7.

Wemby has to be the focal point of the offense and score. In San Antonio's two wins in this series, he scored 33 and 41 points, respectively. In the three losses, he has averaged 22.3 ppg.

OKC getting it done on defense

The Thunder played solid defense in Game 5, holding the Spurs to 40% shooting from the floor and 29% from beyond the arc.

Even in the bad loss in Game 4, OKC played solid D, holding San Antonio to 39% shooting. However, they shot poorly, unlike in Game 5, when they knocked down 48% of their shots.

Other guys stepped up for Thunder

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the high scorer in Game 5, despite making 7 of 19 shots from the floor. He was 16-for-17 from the free-throw line. He also got a lot of help.

Isaiah Hartenstein and Chet Holmgren each had a double-double, combining for 28 points and 26 rebounds, and Alex Caruso came off the bench to score 22 points. All three shot at least 50% from the floor.

Spurs need the whole crew

The Spurs have a solid backcourt with the likes of De'Aaron Fox (17.4 ppg), Devin Vassell (13.2 ppg), Stephon Castle (19.5 ppg), and Dylan Harper (12.8 ppg), who are all averaging double figures in the playoffs.

Castle did his part in Game 5 with 24 points on 7-of-11 shooting, but Fox, Vassell, and Harper only combined for 20 points on 7-for-31 shooting. A 22.6% field goal percentage for this trio cannot happen in Game 6.

McCain comes through for OKC

With Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell ruled out due to injuries, Jared McCain got his first playoff start and did not have the best shooting night (7-for-19), but had 20 points. For Game 6, Williams and Mitchell will be game-time decisions. If they can go, it could spell trouble for the Spurs.

PlayersBest prediction: Thunder +3.5

The Thunder regained momentum with a big Game 5 win, playing well on both ends of the floor. Their big guys were solid and forced Wemby into a poor game.

I look for Wemby to bounce back and play well on his floor in Game 6. However, the Thunder will continue to play solid defense and won't shoot as poorly as they did in their last game in San Antonio. I see a close game here, and while OKC may not get the win, they will, at least, cover the spread.

The best online sportsbooks have the Thunder as the betting favorites to win the NBA title at -145, with the Spurs at +550, and the Eastern Conference champion New York Knicks at +215.

Thunder vs. Spurs Game 6 player prop picks

Here are some player prop bets we like at DraftKings Sportsbook:

  • Wemby to score 27+ points (-115) – OK, so he only had 20 points on poor shooting in Game 5. However, back at home in an elimination game, he has to make up for the scoring deficit and will go for at least 27 points.
  • Alex Caruso 12+ points (+140) – In four of five games in this series, Caruso has scored at least 15 points. He's averaging 17 ppg in the series, even after going scoreless in Game 4.
