When you wrote to the North Pole and asked Santa for gifts this year did you ask for even more NFL primetime games than usual? Well, you must’ve been extra nice this year as the NFL and Santa Claus made their list, checked it twice, and included an entire week of primetime matchups for your enjoyment. None of which involve the Jaguars or Jets, it’s a Christmas miracle!
What we do get is a rare Tuesday night double header, Thursday Night Football, another double dose action on Christmas day, and then a full slate of games on Sunday, along with Sunday Night Football and Monday Night Football. You only have to survive two nights this week without the NFL, and there’s even more chances for you to pick up some extra Christmas cheer.
Since there’s more primetime games this week than reindeers attached to Santa’s sleigh let’s go through them and get all of the info you need to place an informed wager. Once we’ve done that head over to the Football odds comparison page where you can see odds on every NFL game across multiple sportsbooks all in one place.
The return of Tuesday Night Football starts with a beleaguered Washington Football Team taking on the Philadelphia Eagles. Each team enters this contest with a 6-7 record and a loss all but eliminates them from postseason contention. Neither team got off to hot start this year, but they’ve found their groove as of late with Washington losing for the first time in five games last week and Phili having won three out of their last five.
The big news with this game is the Football Team’s roster, or lack thereof. COVID has put 23 players out of this contest including their starting and backup quarterback. I’m honestly surprised that the major online sportsbooks only have this spread at 6.5 points in favor of the Eagles and not even larger.
With that being said, I have little to no faith in Garrett Gilbert who will likely start for the WFT, so take the Eagles to win and cover. Also, I like the under, which currently sits at 42.5 as I don’t see Washington being able to move the football much.
The Tuesday Night treat is an NFC West rivalry as the Los Angeles Rams host the Seattle Seahawks. Moving this game back allowed many Rams players like receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and corner Jalen Ramsey to get healthy, but also gave time for many Seahawk players to get sick. The birds will be without running backs Travis Homer and Alex Collins, as well as wideout Tyler Lockett. The Rams biggest piece missing on offense is tight end Tyler Higbee.
Russell Wilson has struggled to perform up to his usual standards and the Seattle offense has sputtered because of it. However, he seems to get healthier every week and always performs well in this rivalry. I don’t see the Seahawks winning, but I like their chances to cover the seven point spread. Missing pieces on defense for both teams lead me to believe that the over, which sits at 45.5 points will hit as well.
Week 16 is the last Thursday Night Football game of the 2021 season as the Tennessee Titans host the San Francisco 49ers.
Once the hottest team in the league the Titans have sputtered since they lost running back Derrick Henry and wide receiver A.J. Brown. The 49ers have gotten better as they’ve gotten healthier and are 3.5 point road favorites for this game.
I’m not going to give you a tip of who to bet just yet in this contest. Instead, you should keep an eye out for A.J. Brown, who might be cleared to play in this game. Tennessee is 2-4 in game when Brown doesn’t play. They are 7-1 when he starts and makes it through all four quarters. Keep checking his status, and if he’s a go, take the Titans in the upset.
Leave some cookies out for Santa, get all the presents wrapped and get ready for fun Christmas day with the first of our two games as the Cleveland Browns play the Green Bay Packers.
The Browns come into this one on a short week as their Week 15 contest was rescheduled to Monday Night. The Packers come into Christmas with a narrow win over the Ravens who were without Lamar Jackson.
It’s looking like Cleveland will get Baker Mayfield back along with the 18 other players who had to sit out Monday Night’s contest vs. the Raiders. I don’t see it being much help though. The packers are hitting their stride as they often do in December and they will be almost impossible to beat in Green Bay, on short week, with many of the starters not even training in the facility for the prior week. The line currently has the Packers as 7.5 point favorites and I would take that before it gets even larger.
The Colts ride high into Week 16 after bucking the New England Patriots. The Cardinals wound up on the naughty loss after an embarrassing 30-12 blowout by the Detroit Lions. This included an 112 yard rushing performance by… *check notes* …Kutztown University alum Craig Reynolds.
Well at least the Cardinals only have to go up against the Colts O-line and Jonathan Taylor this week. The mighty have fallen hard as the last undefeated team in the NFL have now lost four out of their last seven games and could potentially miss out on winning the NFC West, something that only a few weeks ago looked like a foregone conclusion.
The Cards are still 3.5 point favorites, but I would take the Colts to win in an upset here. The Cardinals are a different team without wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and Taylor will move through this defense like Santa moves through chimneys.
That’s nowhere even close to covering all of the NFL action for Week 16. If you want the full breakdown be sure to head to our NFL News page on Friday for a full report on every Sunday game as well as betting guides for the Sunday and Monday Night Football matchup.
