UCLA at Arizona has two top ten teams battle it out in the desert.
UCLA and Arizona are essentially tied in the standings for first place in the PAC-12. Last year, there were six teams from the conference that made it into the March Madness tournament (including the incredible run from #11 UCLA to make the Final Four). This year the PAC-12 is not as strong with four teams that should definitely make it in (Arizona, UCLA, USC, & Washington State), leaving Stanford, Oregon, Washington, & Colorado all on the bubble, but less likely to make it in.
Arizona has the slight lead to win the conference at -115, and UCLA is at -105. Take Arizona at these odds now before they win and the odds pay out less. After this matchup Arizona will have another home game against #19 USC. UCLA will have an easier time playing 6-12 Arizona State in Tempe.
Arizona is ranked third in the NET ratings (strength of schedule, winning percentage, etc.), while UCLA is 11th. NET stands for NCAA Estimate Tool to help decide the seeding. If March Madness were to happen with these rankings now Arizona would be a one seed, and UCLA would be a three seed. Arizona has the better odds to win the tournament in March at +1400 (UCLA +1600).
UCLA beat Arizona in Westwood, Los Angeles last week. This week the game will be in Arizona and the Wildcats are undefeated in eleven games at home. Arizona has only lost to #3 UCLA and the #22 Tennessee Volunteers. Arizona’s Bennedict Mathurin scored 16 points and had ten rebounds to get a double double.
Center Christian Koloko has had two double doubles in three games. He has been averaging almost 8 rebounds, 13 points, 3.2 blocks, and a steal per game. Cameroon-born Koloko is a junior and has really flourished in his third year. Arizona shoots 86 points per game, which is 3rd out of 358 NCAA teams. Take Arizona at home for the win and with the spread.
Ohio State is #19 in NET, while Iowa is #24. Iowa has Murray who is one of the top shooters in college this year, shooting 22.3 points per game. Take Iowa at +5 in a game which could decide which of the two teams may get the higher seeding come March.
Both of these teams have 17 wins and are essentially tied for first in the Mountain West. Boise State won their last matchup at home, but this time Wyoming has the home court. Choose the Cowboys at home at -1.
In the PAC-12 Washington State and Stanford find themselves on the bubble with likely only one of these two teams making it into the tournament. After a big win against UCLA and Cal, take Stanford at home at +2.
In the WCC Gonzaga and St. Mary’s will make the tournament. There is a chance both USF and BYU will make it in as well, but whoever wins this matchup will almost all but secure their bid into March Madness.
These are the two teams that are on the fringe in the Big East. They both sport a 13-7 record, although Creighton is coming off of a big road win against #17 UCONN. Take Creighton, who are riding their new hotstreak.
The Mountain West have six teams that could easily make the tournament, but more than likely only three to four teams will make it in. The Aztecs won the first matchup to give Colorado State their first loss of the season, can they do it again? After an impressive win against New Mexico, watch the Aztecs climb back into relevancy.
