Wildcard Sunday: Steelers at Chiefs Betting Guide

Sunday night will close off with the Steelers traveling to Kansas City to play the Chiefs for the second time in three weeks. It is miraculous that the Steelers even made it into the playoffs with their 9-7-1 record (the one tie is to the 3-13-1 Detroit Lions).

First, they needed to beat Baltimore, which they did 16-13 in overtime. Furthermore, Pittsburgh needed Jacksonville to upset Indianapolis. If the Colts won this game, they would have made it into the playoffs themselves, but they were upset 26-11, by the worst team in the NFL. After these two events occurred in the early games, all they needed was for the Chargers and Raiders not to tie. Well, Pittsburgh and their fans must have been sweating as the game went into overtime. After every passing minute the game was nearing an end with the teams still stuck at 32 a piece. The Raiders kicked a field goal as time expired and both the Raiders and Steelers got their tickets punched into the playoffs.

Are the Steelers good enough to be in the playoffs? Probably not. Are there better teams that didn’t make it in? Yes, the Colts, Chargers, Dolphins, & Ravens (with Lamar Jackson back at least). But here we are a Steelers at Chiefs rematch, where the winner will play the victor of the Patriots at Bills game. Bet on all the playoff games this weekend, but review any last second football tips before placing those bets.

Steelers at Chiefs this Sunday night

Week 16 Rematch

In Week 16 the Steelers fell to the Chiefs 36-10 in Kansas City. In that game Kelce did not play, Tyreek Hill was held to almost no production, and Edwards-Helaire left the game with an injury that might keep him out of this one too. Mahomes still threw for three touchdowns (Pringle caught two, & Hardman the other). On the ground backups Williams and Gore both had 85 and over 100 total yards respectively. Pittsburgh does not have a good defense and even the backups took advantage of them with Mahomes orchestrating the win.

The Steelers scored with a Diontae Johnson touchdown, but that was about all the production they had through the air. Big Ben only had 159 yards and also threw an interception. Najee Harris was a bright spot and rushed for over 90 yards against the Chiefs. If the Steelers have any chance of winning, they will have to dictate the speed of the game on the ground and be more efficient through the air.

The Spread: Steelers +12.5

The Chiefs should win this game no problem, but a 12.5 spread is a lot. When the Steelers are underdogs against the spread this year they cover it 63.6% of the time. Expect the Steelers to run and manage the clock. Harris was productive last game against the Chiefs and should play a big roll. This probably will be Ben Roethlisberger’s last game and he should perform better than his last outing against them, at least 200 yards in the air. The Chiefs have a weaker defense, especially against wide outs and top tier running backs. Therefore, head to one of the best online sportsbooks in the US and the Steelers to cover the spread.

Darrel Williams Scores & Chiefs Win (+130)

Edwards-Helaire missed practice this week and is no guarantee to play Sunday. Despite a possible comeback, he would have limited snaps. Therefore, Williams will get the lion’s share of touches on Sunday and the Steelers rank 32nd in defending the run during the last five weeks.

Chase Claypool Scores & Chiefs Win (+224)

The Chiefs are the fourth worst team in the NFL at defending wide receivers in the last five weeks. During their last outing, Claypool went four for 41 yards, but this outing he has more to play for. Now that Big Ben might be ending his career, expect Claypool to have a big part on the game Sunday.
