One of the most common MLB prop bets at popular online sportsbooks is for a player to hit a home run.
It's never an easy pick, and after a little handicapping, we have pinpointed some value home run props to help make your picks even more valuable across the slate of games on Saturday.
MLB home run predictions today (July 18)
The home run odds featured for today’s games are courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.
James Wood, Nationals (+248), C.J. Abrams, Nationals (+424), and Luis Garcia Jr., Nationals (+453)
Take your pick here with three solid value bets. Note that James Garcia Jr., the everyday first baseman, may not get the start again after backup Andres Chaparro hit two home runs and had eight RBIs in Washington’s 23-4 rout over the Athletics in last night’s game.
James Wood leads the Nats with 28 home runs, and C.J. Abrams and Luis Garcia Jr. each have 20.
J.T. Ginn (7-6, 3.67 ERA, 1.25 WHIP) gets the start for the Athletics, and he has given up five home runs over his last four starts, including two in the last one.
Adding value to the bets is that Ginn has not lasted more than 4 1/3 innings in either of his last two starts. He will hand the ball to the Athletics’ bullpen, which ranks dead last in the Majors in bullpen ERA and has given up the second-most home runs.
Also, the Athletics' temporary home park, Sutter Health Park, has seen the second-most long balls in the Majors this season.
Shea Langeliers, Athletics (+213)
Let’s stay in the Nats vs. Athletics game, taking Shea Langeliers (22 home runs) to hit a home run. He hit one in last night’s game and has one in each of the last two.
Langeliers will be facing Washington starter Zack Littell (7-6, 4.90 ERA, 1.31 WHIP), who has given up 10 home runs over his last five starts, including four in one of them.
We mentioned that the Athletics bullpen has given up the second-most home runs, and can you guess which bullpen has given up the most? You got it, the Nationals.
The Athletics have lost 10 in a row, and after only totaling 10 runs in their last eight games, you better believe Langeliers and the lineup will come out swinging tonight.
Matt Olson, Braves (+300)
Pretty solid value odds for Braves All-Star Matt Olson, who had a home run in yesterday’s 15-1 rout over the Texas Rangers. He ranks tied for seventh in the Majors with 26 home runs and has gone yard five times in 13 games this month.
MacKenzie Gore (5-8, 4.63 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) gets the starting nod for the Rangers, and he has given up three home runs in his last two starts.
