How to Play Craps Online
- Craps is played with two dice.
- When you’re throwing the dice, you’re known as the shooter.
- The first step is for the shooter to throw the dice, where one of three possible outcomes can happen. If the dice land on a 7 or 11, this is known as a ‘natural’. It means the shooter wins and gets another chance to roll. However, if the dice land on 2, 3 or 12, this is known as ‘crapping out’: they lose and roll again.
- If the shooter rolls any of the other possible numbers (4,5,6,8,9 or 10), this is known as the Point. Once they’ve established a point, they roll again with the intention of landing the dice on the same number (it doesn’t have to be the exact same combination). If they land a 7 before hitting the Point though, they ‘seven out’, which means they lose and the round is over.
Different Types of Bet at Craps Online
There are multiple ways you can bet on the shooter in craps. These include bets before the point line is established. These include a ‘Pass Line’, which means you bet the shooter will roll a natural or hit the Point, and ‘Don’t Pass Line’, when a player rolls 2 or 3 or sevens out. If they land a 12, you neither lose or win – this is known as a push.
Once the point has been established, you can wager on a ‘Come’ or ‘Don’t Come’ outcome. If the shooter rolls a natural, a Come bet wins. If a point is rolled, then the wager works just like the Pass Line where you need the shooter to hit the point before they seven out. The Don’t Come bet works the opposite way, winning if a 2 or 3 lands and neither losing or winning if it’s a 12. If a point is made, the wager wins when the shooter sevens out.
You can also bet on the outcome of the roll, either by betting on a specific number outcome or one of several. For example, if you place an ‘Any Craps’ bet, you win if the shooter rolls a 2, 3 or 12.
You can also bet on a Hard Ways result, which is when both dice land on the same number as each other. Other options include Place Bets, where you bet on a specific number coming up before a 7 after the point is set. There are also Field Bets where you win on any number but 5, 6, 7 or 8, as well as Big 6 and Big 8 bets when you win if these numbers are rolled before a 7.
Beginner’s Craps Strategy
Pass Line Strategy
A craps best strategy for players who are new to this game is to bet on the pass line. This is a simple way to play and a good way to familiarise yourself with the game. It means if the dice comes out on 7 or 11, your wager wins. Another benefit of this strategy is that it has a low house edge and is a betting option with even odds.
Don’t Pass/Come Betting
Remember those Don’t Pass and Don’t Come bets I mentioned? Well, these also make an ideal play strategy if you feel craps is a little complicated to you.
Effectively here, you’re betting against the shooter. Strategies that bet against the shooter are known as ‘Dark Side’ strategies, but don’t worry, especially if you’re playing online. Remember, the odds on a Don’t Pass wager are lower than you’ll find with the Pass Line strategy, as there are more dice combinations for a 7 result.

Craps Odd Betting
If you’re feeling all caught up on the basics of craps strategy, then the craps odd approach is one that welcomes you back to the Dark Side. Once the point is established, you bet that the shooter will throw a 7 before they throw a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10. While the payout on this wager may be lower than some others, the benefit here is that you have a statistically fair chance of winning this bet.
6/8 Strategy
Alternatively, you can set your course for the 6/8 strategy. It may not be the most imaginatively named strategy, but this one benefits from a low house edge and good odds. That’s because, after 7 (which has the greatest odds), 6 and 8 are statistically the most likely outcomes.
However, this is a progressive betting strategy, meaning it’s a higher risk. You make a place bet on the shooter landing a 6 and 8. If you win, you can take your winnings and bet again but if you lose, you increase the bet amount. As it is possible to go on a long losing streak, this won’t be the best way to play craps if you have a limited bankroll.
Press Strategy
Another option in the constellation of craps options is the press strategy, which focuses on pressing place bets. It’s a highly aggressive strategy and one that comes with risks to your bankroll. You make a place bet on a certain number and you win if the shooter rolls that number before they seven out.
However, once you win, you keep the winnings but push the original stake so it effectively doubles the amount each round you play. The thinking behind this is that it only takes a small bankroll investment with high potential winnings. However, the odds of landing the same number multiple times before a 7 is high.
Advanced Crap Strategies
You should only attempt these advanced craps best strategy options once the game becomes very familiar to you.
Iron Cross Strategy
The Iron Cross craps approach means you bet on any number other than 7 being rolled after the shooter has established the point. You can use a combination of different bet types, including place and field bets, to cover all outcomes other than 7. While the 6/8 strategy does have a lower house edge, this advanced strategy is an entertaining way to wager and gives you more ways to win.
Remember though that 7 is the most common number thrown in the game. Plus, covering all the other numbers can result in a high wager amount, so the Iron Cross craps approach is most suitable for use as a one-off bet.
Wild Bettor
If you want the chance to win big on a single roll and don’t mind the risk of burning through your bankroll like a meteor, then you can try your hand at the Wild Bettor strategy. You can opt for a proposition bet with a 15:1 payout by wagering on either 11 or 3. Alternatively, you can make a Hi-Lo bet with the same odds by betting on either 2 or 12. These bets are a big risk but with infinite possibilities in this universe, there’s always the chance you’ll get lucky.
3 Points Molly
Like navigating your way through an asteroid belt, the 3 Points Molly strategy is highly complex. This involves you placing multiple maximum odd bets on outcomes that have good odds, with the idea being that you can mitigate loss with consistent smaller wins. It also requires you to be willing to put a sizable bankroll at risk.
Before a point is set, you bet on the pass line (that the shooter will throw a 7 or 11). Once a point is set, you make a maximum odds bet on the point, along with a Come bet as well. If the shooter rolls something other than the point, a 7 or 11, you make this number your second point and move your Come bet to that number, with maximum odds. You also place another Come bet.
Again, if the shooter lands anything other than 7, 11 or one of your two Points, then make this your third Point and bet on it with maximum odds. This continues until a 7, 11 or the Point is thrown, meaning you always have bets on three numbers.
