Andorra vs England | 09.10.2021

- Betting Tips · 09.10.2021 - 19:45 · Estadi Nacional

You can see from space who the favourites are in this one. England come into this game off the back of their absolutely universe changing European run and there’s little doubt that the expectations for them are to the moon and back here. However, they’re far from invincible – and far stranger things have happened.

Across the pitch from them stands Andorra, who looks like another team for England to run down in their hopes of once again hitting an international tournament like a meteorite. But football is made of underdog stories. While I’m not going to commit myself to saying that I think such a thing is anything other than unlikely, it’s hardly like an Andorra goal would be an unidentified flying object.

The current constitution

Andorra’s Chances Look Grim

While I wanted to make it clear that Andorra winning or even drawing here is possible – without wanting to give away my football betting predictions later – I don’t think their recent results provide the best evidence in that direction. If it weren’t for a single 2-0 win over San Marino, which saw a brave from Marc Vales, we’re talking about a team that hasn’t won since October 2019. And they’ve not been an inactive team either, not some hulk floating around the international footie cosmos.

That would make 18 games, if it was not for that San Marino exception, without a win. They also cannot qualify directly, and the play-off odds look very unlikely. Still, their ship hasn’t been completely without defence cannons. They managed a late goal against Hungary thanks to Max Llovera, looking stronger even in defeat.

England Have the Taste for Big Tournament Glory

It feels impossible to talk about World Cup qualification for England without discussing their failed attempt at European glory. Yes, a nation’s hearts were broken, even if it made heroes of the likes of Kane, Graelish and Sterling, to name just a few. Although World Cup qualification began before that tournament – with England handily beating San Marino, Albania and Poland – that feels like an age away now.

They returned from the Euros with a kind of controlled fury. They took it out on an outmatched Hungary team and a hostile crowd, besting them 4-0 with goals from Rice, Maguire, Sterling  and Kane, showcasing the depth of their team. They managed the same feat against upcoming opponents Andorra, again with multiple goal scorers – this time including the likes of Saka and Lingard for extra punch. Their perfect run was foiled by Poland in a shock 1-1 draw. This should remind England, yet again, that their lions are ferocious but not invincible.

Head to Head

Further enhancing England’s confidence will be the fact that they come into this game with an unbeaten run against Andorra. Five games have been played since 2006 and each has been won by this game’s clear favourites.

The most recent and relevant, of course, we already discussed, which went to a 4-0 win over Andorra on the 5th September. They were as impressive in previous years, winning 6-0 in 2009, 2-0 in 2008, 3-0 in 2007 and 5-0 in 2006. That’s right, not only have Andorra never beaten England, but they’ve never even scored against them. It’s an obvious advantage to England here.

Our Betting Tip for Today

Truthfully, I didn’t think a simple England to win prediction would suffice here. So, instead, I’ve gone with over 4.5 goals for your best value market.

Back a High Score for Best Odds Value

I don’t want to write out Andorra completely, but anything other than a loss for them does still remain very unlikely. And hey, if you disagree with your old captain on this matter, then backing Andorra can net you some absolutely warpspeed odds. Unfortunately, for those who think England are very likely to win, it also means poor odds for us who agree with the bookies.

In the end, I decided to go for a high scoring total goals, as it seemed like the only way of getting decent odds with a market that seemed reasonably likely to happen. I’ve gone over 4.5, which may seem like a lot but remember it only requires England to score one more than their last meeting with Andorra. A goal from them would also count too. I think England have a solid chance of putting the goal tally high on this one, as they’ll want to qualify with a big bang following a disappointing outing with Poland.
